Sustainability is way of life! Stewardship in architecture leads to architects designing sustainable projects. How can architects reduce the impact the planet faces as we build? Giuliani Associates works with owners and builders to look at projects in a holistic approach. As a steward of the environment, Giuliani knows it’s important to bring to clients a solution that balances short term and long-term costs so that the owner’s pro-forma is enhanced. The least expensive short-term solution might cost an owner far more in the long run because of inherent inefficiencies built into the solution. Just as a the lowest long-term cost may be offset by enormous short-term cost. The best solution often needs to be developed by analyzing various schemes to find solutions that are sustainable and make good business sense. What appears to be the most sustainable system can become so complex that it becomes highly inefficient within a few years. Other times, upon review of systems in the field, designers have specified high maintenance technologies designed to meet certain stringent criteria only to find out the owner doesn’t have the necessary budget to maintain such a system. Associates, believes collaboration with all the parties involved in the design, building and ownership need to take part in the design process.
